For our guests who have sensory processing needs, our Zoo has partnered with KultureCity to improve our ability to assist and accommodate guests with sensory needs. Our objective is to provide an inclusive and seamless experience for all guests for all events including those with sensory needs. We strive to raise awareness of the needs and challenges faced by individuals with sensory processing disorders by supplying our Team Members with continuous training and by offering the resources and accommodations below to our guests.
Sensory bags containing special KCVIP badges, fidget tools, noise canceling headphones and other
resources are available for checkout (at no cost by leaving an ID) at our Guest Services Booth located
at our admission gates.

Need a wheelchair, scooter, or stroller?
Wheelchairs, single and double strollers, and electric scooters can be rented at Safari Wheels from April through October. From November through March, they can be rented at the Safari Outpost.
Wheelchairs: $5 per day
Single stroller: $9 per day
Double stroller: $12 per day
Electric scooters: $30 per day
It is strongly recommended to make an advanced reservation for wheelchairs and electric scooters. Quantities are limited. Without a reservation, rentals are on a first-come, first-serve basis and there is no guarantee one will be available. To make a reservation, please call 412-365-6020.

One of two gift shops located in The Village near the entrance of the Zoo, this open-air shop features a wide selection of children’s toys, plush animals, T-shirts and more. This shop is for the young and young at heart. It is a favorite shop for school groups and young families.

Current Gift Shop
The Current Gift Shop is located in the PPG Aquarium. This spectacular gift shop features an array of unique aquatic plush creatures, apparel, gifts, books, jewelry and toys.
Located in The Village at the main entrance to the Zoo, this location primarily offers electric scooter, wheelchair, and stroller rentals. But this location serves as the gear shop, with items such as cameras, hats, sunscreen, batteries, and ponchos available.

Northwest Trading Company
The Zoo’s newest gift shop is located in the plaza between Water’s Edge and Kids Kingdom. Whether it’s a plush animal from the Water’s Edge exhibit, or gear for a Northwest expedition, you’ll find it here.

Located in The Village. This unique shop offers a selection of art, apparel, plush animals, jewelry, books, toys, and other fine gifts. An ATM machine, which operates from April 1 to October 31, is located at the entrance to this building.
The Zoo’s food service is operated and managed by Service Systems Associates (SSA), and offers a diverse array of dining options. All restaurants participate in the Twenty-Five to Survive program and accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express.

The African-themed Jambo Grill is located at the mid-point of the Zoo, making it a great place to take a break during your safari. Jambo Grill offers a fresh, made-to-order menu. Located next door is Swahili Pizza, which offers several pizza variations, alongside Swahili Ice Cream. Swahili Pizza and Swahili Ice Cream are open seasonally.

Village Market, conveniently located at the top of the escalators near the Zoo entrance, offers a variety of food, beverages, and snacks. Open Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Located outside of the lower level of the PPG Aquarium, Arctic Express offers quick, on-the-go snacks. Open seasonally and weather dependant.

Open seasonally, Bean Sprouts is located mid-way through Kids Kingdom, adjacent to the walk-through kangaroo yard. There are plenty of covered outdoor tables and benches. Handicap-accessible restrooms with baby-changing stations are also available. Bean Sprouts is a healthy food option for families who are looking for a more nutritious, feel-good meal. With vegan, nut-free, gluten-free, egg-free, soy-free options and more, Bean Sprouts also provides new offerings for those with food allergies.

UPMC Health Plan Tram rides are available daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day, and weekends only in April, May, and September. The UPMC Health Plan Tram provides a covered ride through the Zoo with stops at eight different locations. Simply purchase a tram wristband from the tram host and you can board or disembark as many times as you wish during the day. Explore at your own pace, then proceed on the UPMC Health Plan Tram to your next adventure. The tram passes each well-marked stop approximately every 20 minutes. The UPMC Health Plan Tram is for your convenience in navigating the Zoo, and is not a guided tour.
Tram wristbands may be purchased at Safari Wheels or from the Tram operator.
Please note: The Tram does have a wheelchair ramp.
Available weekdays June through September (weather and availability permitting) with exclusive rental for a minimum of three hours at $25 per hour. Please request your tram at least three weeks in advance.
